And it is interesting to note that the factors that students to improve their grade (apparently by a third of a letter grade may translate to about 4%) was driven by their goal in terms of what their goal (grade) was, how they planned to achieve it. It was by a more efficient use of their time rather than by a focus on a better understanding of their subject.
