Yesterday I came across the usage of Valo in Bengali which is correctly pronounced as BHalo. I wonder how this spelling (while writing Bengali using Roman script) came about. I read this (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=106952504894).
Bengali does not have the sound "V". It's converted to "Bh". Nor does it have the sound "a" as in "bus". It is pronounced "a" as in "ass". Bengali is one of those languages where the spelling corresponds exactly with the pronunciation. And even while writing Bengali using English (Roman) script, "Bh" would be used and not "v".
Wonder where the new trend came from.
Eastern Bengalis or Assam people use V more... Perhaps its come from the fusion of the east..
ReplyDeleteglobally everything is closer and more fusion of languages can be expected in coming years!!
