The vice principal (VP) in a school occasionally asks me to help with their timetable (TT). Recently she came to me and said one of the teachers (a male) wanted a change in his TT. The guy apparently felt that the lunch (half) hour was not adequate for him to go out and get lunch - he being one of those guys who can't or won't get lunch from home and there being no good restaurants near the school. The VP wanted me to give him adequate time to go out and get lunch and hence could I please move his periods more towards the end of the afternoon...
I gave the VP a temporary solution involving the TT. But I wasn't happy. There are times when some children (students) forget to get lunch either because they or their moms were remiss. They are given biscuits; sometimes other students or teachers share their lunch with those children.
I know the principal of the school has often toyed with the idea of arranging a caterer to deliver piping hot and healthy lunch at school. But this idea has not yet fructified.
Incidentally this school has a period for children where teachers teach them to make snacks, juice etc. This period is held always in the afternoon and children have one period a week of this class. I have often tasted what the children make under the auspices of a teacher. And it's usually very nice and tasty.
I thought further. What if this cooking class was held prior to lunch so that the snacks or juice was available to those teachers and students who came without their lunch bag? Wouldn't it be a nice thing?
There are 5 classes or grades that have this cooking period. And each can take turn, the 1st on Monday, the 2nd on Tuesday and so on. The school could ensure that the cooking period is scheduled in that period in the forenoon session when the respective teacher is free. Simple.
I will discuss this soon with the vice principal and get it rolling.
