Tinsukia

A friend of mine was showing me pictures of tea gardens in Tinsukia. Tinsukia seemed to be in the plains and its altitude is about 150m.

I couldn't believe it. How come there are tea gardens at such a low altitude? Isn't a minimum altitude of about 1000m needed for tea to grow?
