Python - version > 2.6 and < 3

I was reading a book on Python by Charles Severance while taking a course. To install the environment, use these:

  1. http://www.pythonlearn.com/install.php
  2. https://www.python.org/download/releases/2.7.5/ (use windows x86 msi installer)
The following 31 words are keywords in Python (only 31?)

and          del        from        not      while

as            elif        global      or        with
assert      else       if             pass     yield
break       except   import     print
class        exec      in            raise
continue   finally    is            return
def           for        lambda    try

What about raw_input? That seems to be a keyword and not listed here.

Kufar (Or Kufr)

I came across the expression "Kufar ke fatve" and I wondered what the meaning was.

This link threw some light on the word Kufar.

Here is a nice video in which a Lebanese woman talks about what Islam really says about women. This would be quite useful when my enigmatic friend gets married to a conservative man from KPK / NWF province.

Class Action Suit

I wonder whether there will come a time in the future when a Class Action suit is filed against such behavior by a group of plaintiffs. http://cnnphilippines.com/world/2015/07/19/NY-Times-reports-Cosby-admitted-pursuing-younger-women-in-deposition.html

And here is Yakub Memon, apparently a Chartered Accountant and quite good looking too (like Sanjay Khan?). What was he doing with bomb blasts... Sad.

A Ha - Whitewater Rafting In Kerala

This is near Thusharagiri falls - north east of Calicut and Iruvanjhipuzha (see also this).

This is to be held on July 23rd while the snakeboat race is held in Alapuzha on the 2nd Saturday of August. It's far better to watch it on TV or from some nice uncrowded place - don't go to Alapuzha during this time. It is tremendously crowded, lot of foreigners and the place becomes expensive.

Stress And Well Being And Resilience

Most of this post will be quotes or transcripts from videos

Homeostasis, also spelled homoeostasis (from Greek: ὅμοιος homœos, "similar" and στάσις stasis, "standing still"), is the property of a system in which variables are regulated so that internal conditions remain stable and relatively constant.
Allostatic load: How much effort our body puts in to keep itself healthy. [from a Google search of the word]

  • [Chronic stress] is impacting our ability to think clearly and be mentally healthy, and lastly, it's manifesting in terms of their behaviors.
  • Stress is intimately connected to our mental health. In some way, they could be considered synonymous, or siblings in someway.
  • Stress is at the heart of a lot of mental health diagnoses - things such as depression, anxiety, trauma related issues.
  • So we have two dimensions that we have to be cognizant of when we're seeking to become resilient. One is what are we doing to manage stress. And the second is what are we doing to optimize our quality of life and well being. These are not  a single continuum with being stressed at one end and good quality of life at the other end.
  • Resilience is ultimately your ability to survive and thrive in life. Survive is the ability to bounce back in the face of adversity. Thrive is doing what matters most - optimizing well being. One is not born with resilience and it isn't a matter of luck. It can be cultivated and acquired.
  • Mindfullness videos: (very nice videos)
    •  Quote: "The more we pay attention to the moment to moment experience of intense emotion, the less threatening the feelings become."
    • Mindfullness consists of
      • What skills
        • Observing (observe anything seriously without words)
        • Describing
        • Participating
      • How Skills
        • Non-judgmentally
        •  One mindfully
        • Effectively
  •  From http://www.ted.com/talks/kelly_mcgonigal_how_to_make_stress_your_friend#t-364185 - "In the study where participants view that stress is helpful, their blood vessels stayed relaxed" - meaning stress by itself is not bad but how we see stress (good for us or bad for us) is more relevant... Caring and human touch create resilience... Chasing meaning, rather than avoiding discomfort is better for you(r heart)."

Does Ageing Affect Everyone At The Same Pace?

Some 38 year old's apparently look the same as they did 10 years back and some look like they are in their 60's (NO - they didn't like they were in their 60's 10 years back also).
